ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The National Government, through the Department of the Interior and Local Government distributed its financial assistance to the Yolanda affected local government units in Region VI on April 11, 2014 at the Capiz Convention Center (La Hacienda Hotel), Roxas City. A total of Php201.9M fund has been allotted to the 67 Yolanda affected LGUs.
The financial assistance referred to as the DILG Recovery Assistance on Yolanda (RAY) Projects will be used by the LGUs in the rehabilitation of their Municipal/City/Provincial Halls, Public Markets and Civic Centers. Spearheading the release of the DILG RAY fund is the Secretary of theInterior and Local Government Mar Roxas.
In his message, Sec Roxas relayed the concerns of President Benigno Aquino towards the recovery of the LGUs, “Walangiwanan, tanankamoamonguidbuligan.” The SILG stressed that no one will be left behind and help will be extended to everyone. The Secretary also added that the rehabilitation will be made step by step.
Alongside with the distribution of the DILG-RAY Fund, the SILG also released the Performance Challenge Fund for 33 RAY-recipient LGUs. Out of 67 Yolanda LGUs, 48 of them are PCF recipients. However, 33 of the 48 were able to comply with the documentary requirements which are necessary conditions in the release of the fund.
Prior to the release of the RAY Fund, an orientation on the implementing guidelines was conducted by the DILG Regional Office in coordination with the DILG-Office of the Project and Development Services (OPDS). According to DILG R6 Regional Director Anthony Nuyda, the said orientation was necessary for there are institutional arrangements that have to be observed in the implementing of the projects.
Present during the activity were Usec Austere Panadero, OCD R6 Regional Director Rosario Cabrera, Governor Victor Tanco of Capiz, Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo of Aklan, LCEs and other LGU functionaries from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo and Negros Occidental. /LGOO II Marecor M.
