“When we talk about the MASA MASID Program, we are talking about institutionalizing volunteerism,” stressed DILG 10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe during the provincial launching of the Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga or MASA MASID in Lanao del Norte on January 26, 2017.
“The idea is that we will be involving everyone against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality; everyone then has got to do something and that we are expecting that the Local Government Units (LGUs) will be our primary implementer of the MASA MASID Program,” RD Agabe said.
He also mentioned that the program, which was conceptualized by the DILG in support of the President’s call to suppress illegal drugs, criminality and corruption, is geared towards heightening community involvement. Furthermore, he enumerated the three strategies that MASA MASID will focus on: (1) supply reduction, (2) demand reduction, and (3) Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP).
“Hopefully the local chief executives, together with our partners, already know what to do when we lead the MASA MASID Program,” RD Agabe said. “The campaign against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality cannot be successful without your support.”
Moreover, Asst. Secretary for Muslim Affairs and Special Concerns Hamid K. Ladjakahal urged that “this is the time for us to unite and support the President in addressing the core problems that we are facing.” According to him, the four major sicknesses of the country are illegal drugs, criminality, graft and corruption, and violent terrorism.
With the MASA MASID program being officially launched in the Province, Lanao del Norte’s first and second district Congressmen Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo and Abdullah Dimakuta Dimaporo expressed their commitment for the success of the said program. Likewise, Local Government Units (Municipal Mayors and Punong Barangays), National Government Line Agencies (PNP and AFP), and Civil Society Organizations also stated their support to MASA MASID.
The provincial launching was held at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) Gymnasium, Sagadan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
