General Nakar, Quezon benefits from the DILG’s SALINTUBIG Program

With the objective of ensuring adequate, safe and sustainable water access to the public, the Municipality of General Nakar in the province of Quezon as well as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region IV-A CALABARZON unveiled to the public last October 1, 2013 the municipality’s New Municipal Water Supply System.

                 The inauguration of the facility which was held in Brgy. Minahan Sur, a remote and mountainous area was led by General Nakar Muncipal Mayor Leovegildo R. Ruzol and DILG IV-A Assistant Regional Director Ariel O. Iglesia who represented Regional Director Josefina E. Castilla-Go. ARD Iglesia was accompanied by DILG Quezon Provincial Director Enrico O. Damot, DILG IV-A Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) Chief John Cerezo, DILG IV-A SALINTUBIG Focal Person Danilo Nobleza, General Nakar MLGOO Ronilo Paderez, and LGOO V Melchor Doce from DILG Quezon.  

  Worth P25M, the project which is under the DILG’s Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig para sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG) Program is a counter-part funding project between the local government of General Nakar and DILG IV-A CALABARZON. The Civil and Water Works worth P7M were funded by the DILG thru the SALINTUBIG, while the Engineering Design and Construction worth P17M were shouldered by the LGU of General Nakar. This excludes the Land Acquisition worth P7M which was funded by the LGU.

 In appreciation of the project due to its benefits to the people of General Nakar, the inauguration was even cited by a local FM Radio in nearby Infanta, Quezon last October 3, 2013 during the 6:30 AM and 7:45 AM broadcast of Mr. Aris Mendoza in his program Bayanihan Spirit aired over 97.2 Spirit FM Radio.

 The construction of the Municipal Water Supply System in General Nakar, Quezon is in line with the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of Ensuring Environmental Sustainability particularly in reducing by half the number of people without access to water and basic sanitation. The project also intends to eradicate the incidence of water-borne diseases in the municipality such as diarrhea and typhoid fever which was experienced by the LGU for the past 3 years.
