To be more effective and attuned to the challenges of settling disputes in the barangays, a two-day Skills Enhancement Training for the Lupong Tagapamayapa was facilitated by DILG Mambajao and funded by LNMB-Mambajao Chapter recently at the SB Session Hall, Mambajao, Camiguin.
Silverio T. Chan, President, Liga ng mga Barangay, in his opening remarks, expressed appreciation for the conduct of the activity as the inputs would help them improve handling of complaints filed before the barangay.
The pool of resource persons include: Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Katherine L. Pabatao who shared the activity’s rationale and training rules; DILG Camiguin Provincial Director Rhona G. Pedraza-Abadilla for the overview of the Katarungang Pambarangay Law and the Basics of Effective Mediation/Conciliation; Atty. Lester Labiano of Public Attorneys Office (PAO) discussed Jurisprudence and Updates on KP Implementation Integrating concerns of RA 9344, RA 9262 and RA 8371, and Barangay Protection Order; and Provincial Prosecutor Gioanes Ayza Cabiguin discussed Authority of the Lupon (Specific cases covered by the lupon), and Rules on Venue, and Execution of Settlement Agreement/Arbitration Award.
Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo inspired the Lupon to take on their responsibilities seriously to contribute to achieving the overall peace and order in the province. He hoped that everyone would continue to perform for the best interest of the people in Camiguin.
Attendees included the Lupon Chairman, Members and Secretary of the fifteen (15) Barangays while resource persons were from Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Armed with new knowledge and skills set, the Lupons were reinvigorated to strengthen the alternative system of dispensation of justice at the barangay’s doorstep.
