DILG CAR leads CoRe Youth Congress

The DILG-Cordillera Administrative Region conducted a two-day Constitutional Reform Youth Congress through the Center for Federalism and Constitutional Reform (CFCR-PMO), participated by different schools in the Cordillera from November 21-22, 2019 at the Sen. Nene Pimentel Hall Baguio City headed by Regional Director Marlo L. Iringan and Assistant Regional Director Araceli A. San Jose.

A Constitutional Reform Talk was presented by DILG CFCR-PMO Multi-media Management Officer Marcelo L. Gemalan on the Role of the Youth in Nation Building. This is beneficial in increasing the awareness of the young and to encourage their involvement in understanding the general principles of constitutional reform.

Apart from the orientation, different activities were set for Senior High School, College and Technical Vocational students from different schools who joined contests on essay-writing, extemporaneous speech and short-film creation and poster-making. Judges tapped were from the Philippine Information Agency-CAR, National Youth Commission, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and ABS-CBN North Luzon. The hailed winners for the two-day event from first to third placers were given certificates, cash prizes and plaques.

Apart from this event, the agency championed a series of roadshows which were conducted in the different provinces in CAR starting with the first leg in Benguet on November 12, 2019, followed by Kalinga on November 15, Mt. Province on November 19, Apayao on November 21, 2019, Ifugao for November 26 and Abra on the 29th.

Attendees in the roadshows are local government officials and functionaries, other youth CSO representatives and other community members. Activities include media briefing facilitated by the Philippine Information Agency-CAR with CORE Resource Persons, Town Hall Meeting and dialogue with Local Government Officials. Booths were also setup by invited government agencies to personally interact with the people to present their services and programs. Advocacy campaign to the members of the Sangguniang Kabataan, Liga ng mga Barangay and Civil Society Organizations was conducted in Baguio City on November 19, 2019.

The campaign is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's challenge for solons to work and implement changes that would eradicate prevalence of corruption and economic gaps between regions.
