DILG-8 and Northern Samar province turn over financial aid to 16 former rebels

February 16, 2021

DILG-8 Regional Director (RD) Karl Caesar R. Rimando led the ceremonial distribution of Immediate Financial Assistance and Reintegration Assistance to 16 former rebels (FRs) under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

The FRs also received financial assistance from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of the Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS).

The distribution was held on January 27, 2021 at the Darangpan—a transition shelter that offers the FRs a sanctuary for total healing and preparation for their reintegration into mainstream society. The construction of the halfway house was funded by the DILG and is the first of its kind in Region 8.

RD Rimando was joined by Northern Samar Governor Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan, Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) Provincial Director PCOL Arnel Apud, 803rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade Commander, PBGEN Lowell Tan, and DILG Northern Samar Provincial Office (NSPO) Provincial Director Danilo Laguitan.

The campaign against insurgency has hit the higher ground as evidenced by the number of members of the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) who voluntarily turned themselves in and took advantage of the benefits being offered by the government.

The Department works in concert with other agencies to ensure that all government measures are in order to welcome back the former rebels as dignified and productive members of the society and be given a chance to start a new, peaceful life within the folds of society.

DILG continues to advocate steps to strengthen the Filipinos’ trust in the government by spearheading in uniting and making communities safer for families and younger generations.
