ILOILO CITY - As one of the lead agencies in the implementation of the Barangay Forest Program (BFP) in support of the National Greening Program (NGP), the Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Office 6, led by RD Evelyn A. Trompeta, CESO II, joined in the Regional Launching of Barangay Forest Program hosted by the Municipality of Tubungan, Province of Iloilo last June 21, 2013.
The regional launching kicked off with a caravan participated by the lead agencies in coordination with other support agencies starting off from DENR R6 office in Iloilo City going to Tubungan, Iloilo. Upon arrival in Tubungan, a ceremonial tree planting in the Municipal Nursery was led by RD Trompeta with the heads of other delegations and DENR R6 officials.
A program followed at the Municipal Gym participated by the local officials headed by Mayor Vicente Gargaritano, barangay officials of Tubungan headed by their LIGA President, municipal employees of LGU Tubungan, students of Tubungan National High School and local residents. RD Trompeta, in her message, posed a challenge to all the stakeholders that the full implementation of BFP rests not just on strong political will, full commitment, and right political decisions of our leaders but also on the strong support of institutions and other enabling mechanisms to forge consensus to translate commitments into actions.
Another highlight of the activity is the signing of MOAs (Forest Land Use Plan, Memorandum of Partnership Agreement and Barangay Forest Program) between and among DENR R6, LGU of Tubungan and Liga ng mga Barangay of Tubungan. The activity was capped by the Unveiling of Project Map and Releasing of Balloons by the heads of delegations, Mayor Vicente Gargaritano and local officials of Tubungan, Iloilo.
BFP is a joint project undertaking of DENR with DILG in support of the full implementation of NGP and Arbor Day Act of 2012. Hence, DENR-DILG Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2013-03 was issued last May 30, 2013 as guidelines in the establishment and implementation of BFP.
