DILG 10 eyes on empowering IPMRs as members of Local Sanggunian

Aimed to capacitate Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) in Kalabugao Plains on the provisions of law that concerns them as member of the local sanggunian and as representatives of the IP community, an Orientation and Capacitation of IPMRs and Indigenous Peoples (IP) Tribal Leaders on RA 8371 and other IP related issuances and RA 7160 was conducted on February 22 – 23, 2018 at Panika Tourism Center, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon.

In coordination with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) 10, the activity included discussions on RA 8371 or the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act Law, IPMR Guidelines, Indigenous Political Organization (IPO), Indigenous Political Structure (IPS), Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development and the Local Government Code of the Philippines, and workshops to identify succeeding activities to continuously empower the IPMRs.

Resource persons during the activity are: Maricel Pagol, Epsilon Ian Batalla, Rolando Pinto Jr., and Milan Sambile of NCIP 10; and Maria Maida D. Apostol, CLGOO of DILG Malaybalay City.

The activity is under the partnership of the DILG and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammeanrbeit GmbH - Conflict Sensitive Resource and Asset Management (GIZ-COSERAM), in the project Mainstreaming Conflict-Sensitivity, Culture-Recognition Gender-Responsiveness, and Child-Friendliness in the Peacebuilding and Development Process of Northern Mindanao under the component Sustaining Effectiveness of Local Peace and Order Council Initiatives thru the Kalabugao Plains – Peace and Development Convergence Program (KP-PDCP).

Future activities include capacity building on IPMR duties as member of the Local Sanggunian representing the IP Communities on March 7-9, 2018 at Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
