In line with the goal to capacitate barangays to be at the forefront of initiatives to adapt, mitigate and prepare for climate change and disaster impact, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 10 will train select high risk barangays in Northern Mindanao on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management Trainings.
DILG 10 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe says the training will enable the participants to apply the concept of Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management and develop their own Barangay DRRM Plan.
“What we want to happen is that barangays could help us in ensuring that you can keep your residents safe if ever there will be disasters,” says.
Participants to the training are Punong Barangays, SK Chairpersons, SB on Environment, SB on Women, Children, and Family, and Barangay Secretaries.
Agabe challenges the participants to make the residents understand that there is climate change and that they should be ready for it, having the necessary preparations be led by the barangay officials.
“Our barangays play a very vital role. Show to the people that you are deserving of the trust given to you,” he said.
In addition, he also urges the SK Chairpersons to take part in this endeavour, saying that they have to show that the SK Reform Act was able to change the picture of our Sangguniang Kabataan.
Schedules for the select barangays are as follows: July 25-26 for Lanao del Norte (Maigo, Tubod, Munai, Salvador); August 1-3 for Misamis Oriental (Balingoan, Initao, Kinoguitan, Naawan); and August 8-10 for Misamis Occidental (Tudela, Sinacaban, Kibawe, Lantapan).
