Constitutional reform seeks support in Camiguin roadshow

CAMIGUIN PROVINCE—To gain more support for amendments to the 1987 constitution, the DILG Camiguin Provincial Office and the Province of Camiguin conducted a Constitutional Reform (CoRe) Provincial Roadshow recently at the Camiguin Convention Center.

The CoRe Provincial Roadshow was attended by local chief executives, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, punong barangays, SK chairmen and secretaries, civil society organizations, national government agencies, and student leaders from the province

Camiguin Gov. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo expressed support for constitutional reform, saying, “We will support whatever amendments are accepted by the Filipino people.”

The roadshow also included inputs from Prof Eddie M. Alih--a member of Parliament of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao--who discussed the Philippine experience in the unitary system (history and weakness) and enumerated reasons for constitutional reforms both political and fiscal.

Alih called for political, electoral and economic reforms and the empowerment of regions.

Municipal mayors of the five municipalities of the province--Kiterio Antonio U. Palarca II of Catarman, Rogerio C. Acle of Mahinog, Ynigo Jesus D. Romualdo of Mambajao, and Joseph G. Uayan of Sagay participated in the Constitutional Reform Convention-Plenary and expressed their support to amendment of the constitution.
