Following their appointment to office, secretaries and treasurers of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in Cebu City underwent the mandatory training on July 28 at the Department of Education Eco-tech Center at Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City, according to DILG Region 7 Field Office.
DILG 7 Regional Director Leocadio Trovela said that the mandatory training was administered by the Department in coordination with the Panlungsod Pederasyon ng mga Sanggunian Kabataan-Cebu City and University of San Jose-Recoletos.
“It is imperative for the SK secretaries and treasurers to undergo the said training to prepare them before officially assuming their duties and function,” Trovela said.
“The training was intended to equip the SK officials with knowledge on financial independence, records management and accountability and transparency,” he added.
It also emphasized the role of youth to nation-building and molding them to become better citizens with the values of patriotism, nationalism and honor as Filipino.
Topics discussed during the one-day event include Decentralization and Local Governance, Resolution and Minutes writing, and budgeting.
Cebu City is the first in Central Visayas to conduct the mandatory training for SK secretaries and treasurers.
DILG-Cebu City officer-in-charge Atty. Ian Kenneth Lucero, who also sits as chief of the Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division of DILG-7, said SK officials who fail to undergo the SK mandatory training cannot assume office.
Pursuant to SK Reform Act, deliberate failure to attend the mandatory and continuing trainings shall be a ground for disqualification. Last year, after their elections, SK chairpersons and members, underwent the first mandatory training.
