Four (4) local governments of Bulacan were hailed as the 2018 Manila BAYani Regional Awardees under the city and municipal categories of the Environmental Compliance Audit.
Four out of six local government winners in Region III came from the Province of Bulacan, namely: the City of San Jose Del Monte as the 2nd Placer in the city category; Baliwag as the Top Performer in the municipal category; Dona Remedios Trinidad (DRT) as the 2nd Placer in the municipal category; and Plaridel as the 3rd Placer in the municipal category.
The awarding was conducted at the regional level wherein the regional top performers in the city and municipal levels from Regions III, IV-A and National Capital Region (NCR) werequalified in the narrow list for the National Environmental Compliance Audit (ECA) assessment.
The Municipality of Baliwag, being the top performer in the Regional ECA, was awarded with a plaque of recognition and a cheque worth P200,000 which the LGU may utilize for their environment-related projects during the awarding held in April 2019.
Likewise, the City of San Jose Del Monte, Municipality of Plaridel and Municipality of Dona Remedios Trinidad were also awarded with plaques of recognition on June 4, June 10 and July 4, 2019, respectively.
The Manila BAYanihan Award is an incentive given to highly compliant LGUs under the Environmental Compliance Audit (ECA), an annual assessment which aims to measure the level of compliance of LGUs to R.A. No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
The ECA is under the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Program (MBCRPP), a program which aims to bring back Manila Bay to its former glory through the implementation and monitoring of the following Outcome Areas: Liquid Waste Management, Solid Waste Management, Informal Settler Families, Biodiversity Management, and Institutional Arrangements.
