Statement of the DILG

January 7, 2021

GEN. EDUARDO M AÑO (Ret.)
Secretary

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo "Danny" Lim who joined our Creator this morning.

After the untimely demise of NAPOLCOM VCEO Rogelio Casurao, we are heartbroken to lose another fellow public servant with whom the DILG has worked very closely through the years in many undertakings.

The MMDA under Chairman Lim has been truly valuable in effectively implementing the protocols set forth by the President and by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases since the public health crisis began. As MMDA Chairman, he unified and solidified the Metro Manila Mayors in addressing many issues and challenges in the government’s response to the pandemic. He also established the Oplan Kalinga operations center in the MMDA which was one of the game changers in our battle against COVID-19.

The DILG thanks him and the MMDA organization for all meaningful and significant partnerships we have worked on together to ensure road safety, road clearing, environmental protection, and disaster mitigation and prevention in the National Capital Region as well as in the country’s successful hosting of the 31st ASEAN Summit in 2017.

In his decades of public service, Lim stood against the odds to push for reforms in governance. On a personal level, I know him to be a great leader and one of my idols when he served as one of our tactical officers in the Philippine Military Academy. His efforts and contributions to the betterment of our country will never be forgotten.

Isang pasasalamat at saludo kay Danny Lim sa kanyang dedikasyon at serbisyo sa pamahalaan at sa pagiging tunay na kasangga sa reporma at pagbabago. May his soul rest in peace.
