The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) OIC Secretary Eduardo M. Ano welcomes the announcement of Pres. Rodrigo R. Duterte that NCRPO Director Oscar Albayalde will be the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Ano welcomed the president's announcement and cited Albayalde's good track record of professionalism in the PNP.
“We welcome the appointment of PDir Oscar Albayalde as the Chief, PNP. He is the right man for the job,” Ano said.
“He is a professional and capable police officer who can steer and lead the Team PNP in its multifarious missions. He has also my trust and confidence,” he added.
The DILG chief said that Albayalde successfully led the 20,000 strong-National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) who were deployed to different venues, billets, airport, routes, and tours all over Metro Manila during the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
These cops comprised about one-third of the 60,000 security forces who served under the Committee on Security, Peace and Order and Emergency Preparedness and Response (CSPOEPR) led by DILG during the said international event.
He said that is one of the defining moments of Albayalde's career which was indicative of strong leadership.
Ano said that given his performance during the ASEAN Summit, there is no doubt that he can successfully lead the entire PNP in the all-out campaign against drugs, criminality, and corruption.
He added that as a mistah (classmate) of outgoing PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa, it will also be easier for Albayalde to continue the reforms and internal cleansing of the PNP towards the implementation of the P.N.P Patrol Plan 2020 (Peace and Order Agenda for Transformation and upholding of the Rule-of-Law).
The DILG chief said that his first directive to Albayalde upon assumption to office is to scale up and implement nationally the internal cleansing he successfully implemented in NCRPO especially against AWOL, sleeping, non-performing, and drinking-on-the-job cops.
“With PDir. Albayalde’s leadership, we are confident that we can all deliver Pres. Duterte’s promise to eradicate illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption,” Ano said.
